PHILOSOPHY

Pragmatist philosopher, with beliefs deriving from Chinese tradition though complemented by Dewey. He expressed critical reservations regarding Marxism but served as an international diplomat for the government, before relocating to Taiwan. He encouraged greater exposure between vernacularly expressed everyday concerns and loftier literature and scholarship as ingredients in moral education.
