Activist for black enhancement, initially in Jamaica, then the US and Canada and subsequently across Africa. He set about establishing black businesses and a Declaration of the Human Rights of the Negro People of the World. He was pessimistic about the prospect of equality with Whites in America and campaigned instead for a Black African Zion.Prompted by Psalm 68, he developed an earlier 19th century notion of Ethiopia and Africa as the leader of nations. This was also tied in with the development of Rastafarian religion, centred on Ras Tafari the Emperor of Ethiopia.
