LITERATURE
Mark Twain is the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was a reporter and editor for a succession of newspapers, his writings were extensive and especially with Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn widely read within North America and abroad. He was a keen observer of everyday human behaviour and society at large. He ‘debunked’ unthinking pretensions in a way that combined humour with common sense morality. His opposition to slavery and empathy for American Indians became stronger in his later years.
