Historical Who is Who

SEN, Keshub Chunder

1838 - 1884

Keshub C Sen was one of the leading 19th century Hindu social reformers. Like other key figures in the Brahmo Samaj movement, he worked to overcome many caste restrictions and towards greater freedom for women. More distinctively however he found a strong sense of individual God directedness, drawing on the experience of Caitanya and direct exposure to Christianity. From this combination he affirmed the Motherhood of God and supported by 12 disciples he developed education as an agency for human brotherhood, rooted in the conscience of inner Godwardness.
