Historical Who is Who

1836 - 1886

Bengali born Hindu moral and spiritual leader with infectious ‘common touch’ teaching style. He sought to convey a form of (mystical) consciousness in which Brahman (‘Godness’) is in the whole of everything. He demonstrated this by periodically living as a woman, as a Christian and as a Muslim. He believed that profound intimacy with the other is the way to ultimate unity.
