1909 - 1972

Ghana born and Catholic educated, subsequently (at the age of 25) a university student in USA and UK. His studies included aspects of theology, anthropology, philosophy and law, but with a bias towards social action. Contact with From 1949 back in Ghana he campaigned politically with demonstrations and strikes for national self-government. Prime Minister following independence in 1957. Subsequently at the fore of movement for Pan-African unity against white domination. His interest in Marxist ideas prompted his early FBI listing; there was invariably a moral priority in his thinking as visible in the title of one of his later books Consciencism.
