1885 - 1930

From a Nottinghamshire mining family background, he trained as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer – novelist and poet. He is best known for vividly capturing the social mores and deeper emotional sensibilities surrounding sex in human relationships. Perspective now shows Lawrence to be a writer of moral seriousness rather than prurience.
