Inspiration behind the T’ai-p’ing revolutionary movement which challenged the previously long established Manchu dynasty during a 14 year period. His beliefs were a mixture of Protestant Christianity and Confucian Utopianism. These included his own status as younger brother of Jesus, equality of the sexes, shared ownership, good moral education, and rejection of opium-smoking, foot-binding, prostitution and slavery.
