Inspired by strong Christian convictions, she was critical of the second-rate status of women, sexual ignorance and social hypocrisy. Accordingly, she campaigned for better educational provision generally, university opportunities for women and more specifically against 'white slavery', child prostitution  and for the raising of the age of sexual consent to 16.
