Historical Who is Who » AMBEDKAR, Bhimrao
Child of Hindu Dalit (untouchable) caste family background. Post-graduate studies in economics at Columbia in USA and LSE in London - where he also studied Law. Subsequently he practised as lawyer and politician in India campaigning for the rights of untouchables. He was a major contributor to writing of 1947 Constitution of Independent India. It is claimed that there are more statues of him in India than there are of either Gandhi or Nehru.
