virtue ethics

an approach to moral action which derives from an emphasis on good will, generous heartedness and personal character. It is in contrast to approaches which emphasise calculation of consequences (utilitarian) or alternatively which depend on a sense of duty or obligation (deontology). Its tradition goes back to Aristotle and his notion of eudaimonia.
