temptation
the experience of being attracted to some action which we feel we ought probably to resist as either imprudent or immoral or as going against religious teachings or God's will, and needing to be resisted. On the other hand facing temptation and using it as a foil with which to test an ambition, an interest, and the road ahead may actually lead to greater clarity and wisdom. Temptation may need to be resisted, but the form it takes and what would be involved in succumbing to it require careful moral scrutiny.
