It draws attention to underlying and often unconscious drives in both individual and collective human experience which shape human behaviour and identity. The drives are in part inherited and in part determined by early childhood experience. Bringing them to consciousness through such activities as dreaming, drawing and role playing is understood to be a therapeutic priority. With or without the associated theory, recognition of the significance of these shaping factors for personal development is important in any moral education provision.
