naturalistic fallacy

this is the notion identified by the philosopher David Hume that whatever can be described and studied as natural does not therefore become normatively the basis for what ought to be. For instance, 'survival of the fittest' may be a common evolutionary characteristic, however it does not necessarily follow that human beings ought to make that the basis for their conduct towards each other.
