a conglomerate term for grouping of militant beliefs at the right of the political spectrum with the following characteristics: vehemently nationalist as over against other nations, following a strong leader whose power resides in charismatic persuasion rather than inclusive democracy, appealing to feelings of being victimised and of declining worth in social and economic terms. In a European setting typified historically by ideologies propagated by Mussolini and by Hitler.
